Was it a clean checkout? Could you may be try once again (after erasing 
the boot directory)? Was the boot/Makefile.dep created normally? Does it 
have a

lm_map.cmx: lm_map_sig.cmx lm_map.cmi

or a similar line (it does for me)? Which version of OCaml are you using?
